Dr. Laide A. Bello was named medical director of the hospitalist program at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in June 2023.
Dr. Bello has worked at MVH since 2017 as a hospitalist and was appointed associate medical director in 2018. While in that role, his focus was on quality initiatives, carrying out peer and clinical reviews and providing oversight for the clinical operations of the hospitalist program. In his new role, Dr. Bello will continue to oversee all clinical and administrative duties of the hospitalist program.
Dr. Bello completed his internal medicine residency at Carney Hospital in Boston after a year of preliminary medicine training at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He also earned a Master of Public Health degree in the University of Illinois at Chicago with a focus on Environmental and Occupational Health.
Before MVH, Dr. Bello worked as a hospitalist at Lowell General Hospital for five years while living in Somerville, Massachusetts—where he enjoyed providing care to an underserved community.
“I’m passionate about eliminating health inequities in medicine,” Dr. Bello said. “I worked on public health initiatives providing population-based health care in rural communities in Nigeria. I helped facilitate the implementation of wide scale immunization. Despite the lack of access to resources, my patients were so gracious and appreciative of the care provided. This shaped my outlook in life to live by the motto: treat others the way you want to be treated.”
FUN FACTS: To relax and unwind, Dr. Bello enjoys watching the Boston Celtics and AC Milan teams play. He also loves listening to old-school hip hop, rhythm & blues and afrobeats.
